Joining the Crowd

Seems like everyone else has a blog for their semester abroad (or at least the cool people do), so I thought I'd give into peer-pressure and start my own.

If you weren't aware, I am studying in Munich (hereafter referred to with the proper German spelling of München) at one of the two military universities for Germany's officers. The other university is in Hamburg. Even though the two universities are owned7run by the German armed forces, they are essentiallz civilian institutions (no uniforms, no formations, only two or three class days a week, civilian professors etc.) and hence why this blog is titled "A Semester of Real College." (And yes, I will be taking all my classes in German).

Two other cadets and I arrived here in München on Tuesday, and we will be here until next Monday. Then we go to Dresden for a 3 week language course (Sprachausbildung in einer Sprachschule). We will also be integrated into the military science classes for the cadets (in Germany "cadets" are more commonlyreferred to as "Offizieranwärter" which is an officer candidate) at the German army's officer school (Offizierschule des Heeres). This officer's school is separate from the universities in Hamburg and München because it focuses exclusively on military tactics, whereas the other two universities are academic institutions.

So far we've just been doing all of the administrative stuff at the Üniverstät der Bundeswehr München - getting student IDs, meal cards, moving into rooms, registering as a "citizen" of Neubiberg (the suburb of München that the university belongs to), and touring the campus.

I'm still jet-lagged, but that's nothing a few energy drinks can't take care of. Also, that's all I feel like writing for now.
